Way back in 1974, I graduated from high school in Vineland, New Jersey. I wanted to go to college, so I chose Rutgers University in New Jersey--New Jersey is my home state, so I decided to attend Rutgers. What a wonderful experience college life was. In 1979, after taking a year off in 1978, I graduated from Rutgers with a bachelor of science degree in Environmental Science. What a wonderful experience college was. I'll never regret going to college. Daughter of a Rose Gift Baskets was born through the love of crafting and the love of putting together gifts for friends and family. One of my first "gift baskets" was a gift to a friend for her wedding shower more than 23 years ago. This early "gift basket," even without the cellophane and beautiful bow got oooh's and ahhh's. From that moment, I knew I wanted to do this for my gifting to friends and family. But, the birth of my gift basket business didn't come about for another 12 years. I worked in the casino industry from 1980-1987 when I took a leave of absence to have my son, Mark. I decided to leave full-time work to become a full-time Mom. I revelled in motherhood and truly enjoyed every moment of raising my son. I did work an occasional temporary part-time job, but I committed myself to being that full-time Mom. Then, in 1992, I returned to the casino industry. I worked full-time on the swing shift, while my husband continued working day shift. In 1995, I had enough of the casino life and would be happy back home during the days AND nights with my son and husband. I knew I had a talent in crafts and painting animals on river rocks. I was developing these talents after I left the casinos and was looking for a business that I could run from home and be with my son during the day. Again, I thought about gifting and did some research on the internet. I found the perfect job. For me, it was creating gift baskets and running a full-time gift basket business!! I finally found what I was meant to do all my life--making people happy with my gift baskets!! The name "Daughter of a Rose" came from this--my Mother's name is Rose, and I am one of her daughters, so I thought of "Daughter of a Rose Gift Baskets." Well, I've been running Daughter of a Rose Gift Baskets for almost 10 years now. I love every minute of it--from "going shopping" with my catalogues and on the internet, to ordering supplies, to creating and designing gifts and finally to shipping and hand delivering my creations. When hand delivering my gift baskets, I love the look of happiness and the "thank you's" I get from gift recipients and clients. It's just the ultimate profession for me. Anyway, that's my story, and I'll add milestones and maybe some stories to it, so visit here as often as you can! Best regards, Sherrill Barbary/Owner--Daughter of a Rose Gift Baskets |
